It’s mid March. The weather is still wet and cold here in the Dallas area but believe it or not, we’re in Spring Break! Whoohoo! This year, floaties and pool time have been exchanged for mittens and heater-hugging. But no worries, not even this cold soggy weather can put a damper on our spirits as we prepare to make Captured Sky history!
As we mentioned in our last blog, Journey to becoming Juried, we broke new ground in December when one of our favorites, Sampson, was invited to participate in the National Art Encounter 2015 juried competition. This is a HUGE deal for us because it will be our first brick and mortar exhibition! It also means that from here on out Captured Sky is considered a juried art form. So we’re really excited to tell you guys a little bit more about the competition and Captured Sky’s trip to Naples!
The National Art Encounter is a competition hosted annually by the Naples Art Association. Artists from across the United States are invited to submit one piece of artwork in any media for consideration. This year’s Exhibition Juror and Awards Judge is Dr. Carol Damian; a Florida International University professor, art scholar, and past director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum. After a preliminary viewing of submissions, the juror sends invitations to the artists she would like to have participate in the exhibition. This particular fine art exhibition will be on view in the Frederick O. Watson Gallery at The von Liebig Art Center from March 14 through April 18, 2015.

This is made even more exciting because The von Liebig Art Center is located in Naples, Florida in the heart of the 5th Avenue South shopping, dining and entertainment district!

This is a big tourist spot and also happens to be one of the wealthiest cities in the United States, with the sixth highest per capita income in America, and the second highest proportion of millionaires per capita in the US! Hopefully this translates into Sampson finding his forever home while he’s down there 😛 In fact, he’s already been shipped off and eagerly awaits his big debut in Florida.

But that’s not all…WE’RE GOING TO NAPLES TOO!!! That’s right folks, spring break in Florida!! Well, at least a couple days. Since this is our first live-action exhibition and also a great out-of-state opportunity to spread some sky, I desperately wanted to attend. So my Mom, who is also a licensed skydiver and a pretty awesome artist, got us tickets to Florida for my birthday!! How cool is that?? She’s always been really supportive of my skydiving career and freefall art so I couldn’t be more stoked to be going to this event with her! Actually, I need to get on a plane in about five hours so I’m going to end it here. But follow along on our facebook page as we make our way to the beautiful South East and to our FIRST EVER juried exhibition!
